Help with some equipment

Hello all,

I've been running the saltwater tank at my college all year and my family and I have decided that this summer when I come home it is time to install our own. I know how to keep a reef in good shape, but I do not know about starting a new tank from scratch!
We are most likely going for a 100-gal system with a 20ish gallon sump, and a hang on refugium (for now). My questions are what is recommended brand of Spray Injection skimmer, UV Sterillizer, and Ozonizer.
As well, is 4 VHO bulbs enough to maintain a variety of corals? And any recommended lighting would also be appreciated.
Lastly, any additional equipment you've found useful for a reef set-up would be much appreciated.
I plan on using Tampa Bay Saltwater for all the liverock and inverts, and with your guys help, a build thread is forthcoming!

Thanks for any help

I used Tampa Bay rock when I started my tank, in 2002. I still love it.

Starting a tank with TB rock will be fine. I suggest getting an RO/DI. Mix up about 100 gallons of saltwater a few days before your rock arrives. You could use two brute trash cans. Heat and circulate while in the cans. Put some water, maybe 1/2 in the tank. Add the rock and top off.

It's going to need to cycle for 10 days (go with their instructions)

As for a skimmer, I like ASM but there may be better. I'd get the biggest one I could afford. A G4 wouldn't be too big IMO.

Good luck and keep us posted. I can't wait to hear what you get with your rock.

When the rock arrives, just

As for the lights, I'm sure they will work. People still use them.

But I would look at T-5s or LEDs.

And I wouldn't use UV or Ozone.
