ok the past month or so ive been building a custom sump/fuge (i know its taking me a long time) but im now at the lighting point.... i pretty much had my mind set that i would be getting the light melv uses but than i started thinking...would a 40 watt pc be better or melvs ???? btw my fuge is about 6 or 7 gallons so its not that big...the reason i ask about the 40w pc is because thats what i have now over my 10 gallon and i kinda caved in to my girlfriend and agreed that when we move in 3 months i will only have 1 tank:hammer: my plan is to go reef with my 125 g and use the 55 as a sump and possibly the lights from my 10 over the fuge if that makes any sense to you

You could also throw a little frag area in there if you wanted. :D

right now i have 2 24" 130w pc's over my 55 gallon and when i move id like to go mh so i plan to take one of the 24" pc's and putting it over an extra 20g i have as a frag tank :p now i just need to find an affordable mh option for over my 125 :D only reason i say affordable is cause im tryin to buy a house here at the same time

if you're going to move to MH the 130 would be perfect if you decided to set-up a frag section. You could reverse light it to grow macro algae in the fuge as well as light the corals at the same time. the 40 would work fine too. You would just need to keep the frags near the surface. 40w would be more then fine for growing cheato. Most people use little clip on spot lights found at home depot. Just use a low kelvin bulb so they grow out faster. They can color up in the display. :)

so is that a yes the pc's would be a better choice then one melvs uses???? it would also save me some $$$ since i already have the pc's

theres a awesome light fixture my buddy josh discovered, (whaler1582). its a small outdoor PC flood light, small fixture, but puts out 96 watts of yellow light perfect for marco algea, its similar in specturm to the one melve has on his site. but you have to retro it.
all you need is
light $30.
ceiling fan eletctical box,(the plastic blue one, its circular and is the same size as the lights base)$... no more then a few bucks
3 wire nuts
and a old extension cord.

you take your 3 prong cord, id say use about 5-6 feet of cord, depending on your set up. pass through the ceiling fan box, properly splice fixture to cord, for saftey wrap connections in electrical tape. screw light fixture and ceiling fan box together. mount with included screws in stand as desired.

if your good at DIY it should only take you 10-15 min to do, at most 30-45.

total price depends on what you have already, either way it souldnt cost you more then $45 if you have to buy every part. its a awesome light, marco algea grows like crazy under it, doesnt take up much space and best of all, its water proof and cheap!!!!

ill see if i can post up a picture.
