Help with tank.

Yes, I had the same thoughts about the tests. I did the ATI icp testing, here is the link with the results:

I had left my tunze scraper in the tank 24/7 with the metal blade on and my tin level came back high so no more of that in the tank unless its being used!

My alk test tonight was 8.2 so I dropped off a minute on the doser. I'll take it down to 7.5 slowly. I hadn't thought the 8 level for alk would hurt the monti's but I've got an older one dying and a new setosa already going south as well as a damicornis.

My next water change i'll boost the salt up a tad I've always shot for right at 35ppm but I'll take it up that extra hundredth or so.

Mike I've got a Jason fox flame acro that has been hanging on for dear life but is rtn from the base the past couple days. Do you want to try and save it?

If you havent already, have someone else test your water.

what average temp is your tank at...

for SPS bringing the nitrate down will help. depending on the phosphate kit you are using nitrate at 5 and phosphate at 0 doesn't seem right, esp if chaeto is growing nicely. with no or very low phosphates you will see chaeto begin to struggle. brown haze on glass or sand is indicative of changing biology in the tank.. normally means a change was introduced too fast - chaeto wont compete with this.

keeping the alk levels stable will provide best initial results with any stony coral. a beautiful healthy reef tank is about stability more than exact numbers..

mangroves dont do much in a small setup.. but theyre an interesting addition. so dont bank on it much for nutrient export or system stability.

best wishes!

i'm running the temp at about 78. I stirred up my chaeto and its definitely green but not super thick. I even found a shrimp in the fuge :)

35ppt is good, that equals 1.0264sg (what I run). You listed an sg of 1.025 which would equal 33.188ppt.

Regarding the Fox Flame, I'm going through a few things with my tank right now and I'm starting to see the end of the tunnel, but I wouldn't be comfortable yet with saving a frag.

Help with tank.

Test your water for chloramine regular carbon blocks won't remove much of it. You'll need the chloramine blocks. I had that happen to me last year everything tested great but didn't test for total chlorine. Everything would thrive for a few months then slowly wither away.

I tested for chlorine and had 0 free and 0 total. I picked up 2 new t5s (blue plus and coral plus) and am dropping alk down slowly by about a .1 a day. Hoping things stabilize for the acropora.

Cut your lighting back, start feeding more, then slowly add more time back to your lighting. The days of clean water and low nutrition is over. My experience is that corals can handle more light when there is more nutrition in the water. On a side note, my chaeto has never grown well. I can show you pics of my tank if you like, otherwise your just taking the word of another reefer with a post count #. Good luck, I've been exactly where you are now.

I kept reducing the light intensity and time until I got an Acro to not die. I've got a few that are still looking like they did when I bought them and a few that are hanging in there. I'm hopeful they will start encrusting now.
