Help with tunze 9002

I have had this for a month or more now, and for the first week, everything worked well. But since then, I have not been able to get the water level high enough to see in the base of the collection tube. I have disassembled and reassembled the thing so many times, I even have it in a bucket experiment with water level in the tank. The pump seem to be positioned correctly, the elbow joint is not blocked, the air tube is firmly connected. No luck, can someone please help?

I would completely ignore this text in the manual. It is not possible to always have the water level at this height. Every time you put your hands in the tank and disassemble it you only aggrevate the problem. Likely the water level dropped either because the waste that was present was removed and no skimmable material is left (newer set up) or because of disturbance or a surfactant (skin oils, oily food, new filter media, etc). I would just let it run, skimmers do not constantly pull stuff out, something has to be there to be removed and certain additives and oils from the skin can stop the skimming process for a day or two.

Ok, 24 hours without interrupting it, nothing pulled. Even when dosing vitamin C, which should make it go crazy....

Vitamins actually don't instantly make it go crazy, my observation is that vitamin additives stop skimming for a day or two and then result in a foam over with clear water in the cup. I suspect there is a lag time where the vitamins break down and cause this reaction.

I need more info to help, does it produce any bubbles? How deep is it situated, does it make any unusual noises, has anything changed between when it worked and when it quit working.

I don't think a low dose of vitamin C is enough to see much reaction and it could be a negative reaction, the best test substance is freeze dried krill, the chitin and protein content cause a definite reaction and will bind up some oils that may be inhibiting the skimming function.

After one final reassembly before I gave up, it is finally working properly. The water level is the same, and I believe all of the internal components were installed correctly, but something must have been just a little off. While the tunze 9002 can prove to be finicky, it works extremely well when it is dialed in. Thanks for everyones help!
