Hello,
I've been kicking the idea of buying a chiller but have decided to make an attempt to vent the hood to outside.
Presently I have 3 80 cfm fans in the hood that seem to work pretty well but ends up heating the room. I want to duct the hood and bring it outside.
I have 2 ReefopticIII reflectors in an 80 gallon tank. Just switched out the 2x400 watt lights with 2x250's. The heat is still pretty bad. 400's were xm20k's and 250's are Reeflex 10k.
Here's what I'd like to do:
Seal off the back of the hood. I won't be able to get a complete seal due to hanging overflow and a few other things but should be fairly well sealed.
Run duct to outside.
Have one of the 80cfm fans in the beginning of the run on the hood. Have a second inline fan from home depot (see links) to act as a booster.
Questions
Do you think 3" duct would work instead of the standard 4"?. For athetics sake 3" would be better.
The inline exhaust is only 80cfm but since I have the first one it may be enough?.
Here's the link to the fan I was thinking about.

thanks much for your help,
Albert
