help with wrasse jumping

I bought a six line wrasse last year and it jumped out after 6 months or so after being in my tank. I have a hood my tank but the back is open so there is about a 4" or 5" opening across the back. Well, this happened about 4 or 5 months ago and I've really wanted to add a flasher wrasse. I've been reading and got some egg crate to cover the tank under my hood. I ordered a filamented wrasse from you last week and he went into my tank Thursday night. Well, 30 seconds after putting him in my tank he found a 1" square cut out for power cords in the back of my tank. I scooped him up and put him back in the tank. I left the house for a few hours last night and when I got back home I found him laying on top of the egg crate! I don't know how he fit through the holes! I really like wrasses but I'm really nervous about buying another one.

leshampton,

Thank you for sharing your experiences. We are sorry that you have lost both your Sixline Wrasse and more recently your Flasher Wrasse. We certainly understand your worries of buying a third. If the hole for your power cords is approximately 1”, place a sponge or pad around the power cords. You can keep the sponge or pad in place by using electrical tape. This will take care of the only hole in the hood and you should be able to purchase a new beautiful wrasse.

Please PM us your order information so we can credit you for your loss. If you wish to discuss other ideas, please call our Technical Support Department at 1-800-334-3699 ext 225.

You can by plastic gutter gaurd for your local lowes or home depot. It comes in a roll and I believe that the holes are smaller than eggcrate. It is also easily cut with scissors so you can make small openings for power cords.I would give this a try, only cost a few bucks and could even be laid on top of the existing eggcrate and zip tied in place to even further secure the tank!! Good Luck!!
