I have had a couple small colonies of Zoas for a couple of months now and for the last couple of days a few of the frags are not opening up at all! I have tested my water and all of the parameters are in line. I have all of the zoas in the same area and some are doing great and some wont open at all. I am clueless into what might be causing this! I will take some pictures and post them when I get off of work. Please Help!

I have found the problem! It is zoa eating nudibranches! I did a freshwater dip of some of all of the colonies that I could get out of the tank and sure enough found 3 small nudibranches. I have heard that the freshwater dips will kill the adults but not the eggs. What is the best way to eradicate these pests? All help is appreciated!

Dip and QT and dip again in 6 days then again in another. You can spot the eggs under actinic real easily, they look like this @ but white. The problem arises as they could have laid eggs on your LR, so I would remove all polyps and QT for about 14-18 days. good luck and dip and QT all new polyps!

Just to update, I dipped all the zoas about a week ago and some nudi's fell off in the dip. Since then, the zoas look like they are all coming back to life and opening again! Lets just hope that everything stays this way! Thanks for the responses!

Doing a dip of flatworm exit is also excellent at killing the nudis as well. Good luck and just be happy you caught the offenders early.

It doesn't work on all even at double strength. good luck

just found 2 on one of my colonies. the colony looks healthy regardless, i had not had any issues with polyps not opening.

ive only had the zoas about a week and a half. saw one on top of a polyp when my lights came on this morning.

i dipped for 15 mins in revive. pulled the one i saw off with some tweezers and after 10 mins in the dip another fell off dead.

i inspected the zoas closely out of the water with a flash light. did not see any eggs or other nudis but i realize this means nothing lol. 10 mins after the dip and almost every polyp is open again with the exception of maybe 2 or 3

i will take the advice above and redip in 6 days

i just found 5 more on my other colony :( :(

3 pretty large suckers...

this colony was healthy. just noticed some polyps opening and closing, looked closer and there they were.

these guys are not opening quite as quickly now that they are back in the tank. i turned all my lights off except the actinics...
