So I'm getting this red on my rocks and sand bed. Tank has been running for a couple months fish are doing good and tests all come back good. Just wondering if this is normal or if I need to do something about it? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Cyanobacteria. Look in the sticky SETTING UP. Easy problem, in principle. Lights off for 3 days a month. Blues-only on the 4th day. Repeat. You also need a decent skimmer to make this work. Treatments besides this are risky for a new tank.
Hard to see. Looks like some coralline algae on the rocks which is good. But that wouldn't be in the sand. The first 6 months or so your tank goes through many phases and you'll have different algae appear. Usually nothing to worry about if you're keeping your water parameters in check. Don't run out and change your clean up crew or add additives just give it time and do your research.
