for a 20g tank what kind of fishes and corals is the best. my filtration is good, about 20 lbs of live rocks and 2 inches of live sand, an air pump (170 gph ) and a T5 high output fluorescent with moonlights.

Start simple with some blue/green chromis or yellow tail damsels for fish and soft corals, button polyps, zooanthnids for corals. Has your tank cycled? How long has it been up and running?

Nothing personal, but skip the Chromis and Yellow-tailed Blue Damsels. While the Damsels are colorful (I have one) and the Chromis are easy to keep (got two of those...used to have 7), there are other very easy to keep fish that you may enjoy much more.

But for a 20g, keep in mind that you'll only for a couple fish. Maybe 3 small ones....and by small I mean that their full grown size is only no more than 2 inches.

What about a Firefish? Perhaps a Gold Banded Maroon Clown? (yes, they can be mean but they are very good looking) Maybe a Yellow Assessor? Purple Pseudochromis? Six-Line Wrasse? (some will say that a six-line requires a pod population, but this is not necessarily true....many will take frozen foods...mine does and I know several others who have ones that do)

As to corals.....zooanthids, leathers such as cabbage, sinularia, pulsing sinularia, Kenya Tree for an "empty spot filler", etc

ive been having my filter running for about 3 weeks now so i guess it should be safe because i did 2 10g water changes already. how about the xenia for a coral? i already have a firefish and one of those gobies that eat sands.

Xenia is a good starter coral, IMO, although it can get invasive. I probably wouldn't add any more fish to that setup. Maybe a neon goby. I'd probably wait fora while, though, since the tank is very new.
