So I'm new to this and put some zoas in my tank. I have had both now for 2 months but it just seems like they lost their color. I have moved them up and down on my tank and now they are on the sand bed. I feed them BRS reef chili. I had an emerald crab who almost demolishes both colonies but he has been removed and they seem to be doing a lot better. My Alk is low at 3.6 and my nitrates are 50. I'm working to get those better. I'm wondering if that my only problem.

Ok I read my chart wrong. My Alk is 10 dkh. I'm using the red sea test kit. So my Alk is high

What kind of lights?
The nitrates are high if they are 50. The MG seems high and CA seems low.
Seems almost like the routine water quality. Shoot for ~450 CA, ~1300 MG. Get 4the nitrates down.
Once you get a routine down for your daily, maintenance will be a breeze.

Ok lights are probably ok. Mayle just have to play with color. Get your Alk higher. Nitrates lower.... in my experience zoos like a little flow... not a ton but enough to where they move just a little. Mine are kind of recessed away from the direct flow of the power heads. I lost some that were further out in more flow.

Mine are kind of recessed from flow. But they still move just a little. If I've them out into more flow they close up and die.

Have u gotten your numbers better? Alk... CA, MG, nitrates?

im still trying to get my nitrates down. I have been do 20% water changes every 2-3 weeks since I set up the tank. My nitrates have remained at 50. im now dosing with Red Sea NOPOX. If im reading right if I dose calcium my alk should go down right???
 
To get your nitrates down you would need to do a bigger water change. And siphon your gravel. There's many people that have had to do this. Like 50-75% water change. If you mix your own salt, check your RO water first. Your tank could be stresses bcc of bad RO (I'm speaking from experience, I've almost lost my whole tank bcc of bad RO from a local fish store). And check the water after you mix. This way you have what the saltwater is supposed to be and can dose accordingly. You also want your Alk higher.... Alk is essentially how well your tank can handle water number changes.

Why was the RO a Bad Batch?
 
Apparently they didn't change their resins or carbon in a while. And had this weird purple sheen. I got RO from another store did 2 75 gallon water changes in a 90 gallon tank. And all was well.
