Someone hlep me!!! I am new to the hobby. I don't have my saltwater tank running yet. I have recentley aquired my skimmer. I decided to test it on my freshwater tank to make sure it was in proper order. !!!!Is my skimmer supposed to put out sooo many micro bubbles? My freswater tank is a cloud of bubbles!helllppp!!! Please!!!

lol, I did the same thing with my first skimmer. It's always going to do that in a freshwater system. They are not designed to work with that specific gravity. What kind of skimmer is it? I'm sure someone here can at the very least tell you if they have good luck with your particular unit. maybe even give advise on setting it up/adjusting the unit

yes it is, that's what skimmers do - they trap the extra proteins and nutrients on the surface of the bubbles, which then collects in the cup at the top to be disposed of later. The skimmer needs to be set up in such a way that you have barriers/baffles to block and/or absorb the bubbles before they reenter the system.

Skimmers do not work the same on Freshwater tanks. Its really that simple. The SG from the Salt water significantly changes the way the skimmer makes bubbles.

( I scared myself a while back doing the same thing)

Thank you so very much. I was only checking to make sure that it was working properly, and noticed all of the bubbles inside the tank. thanks again.
