im having my first algea attack i think. it started about a day or 2 ago and its brown. its spreading over my rocks and
gravel. is there anything i can get like a shrimp what would do the job.

from your hobby experience it shows since the 3rd of April. If that is when you set up your tank you are getting your first diatom bloom. Have you measured you tank chemistry? If so can you tell us the nubers for Sg, Ph, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and temperature in order for us to get a better understanding of where your tank is please?

Agreed, normal. Not much you can do to this new of a system. Best to ride it out and be patient. It will go away. And as Icefire mentioned, green algae is on the way, cyno probably as well, hair algae in the future, and then maybe some bubble algae thrown in the mix as well. :D All normal process of a tank maturing. Give it 3 months and if it's still algae ridden, then start to "fix" the problem. Have a decent variety of sand sifters/detritus eaters/and algae clean up in the tank. Will help some, but ultimately problby not enough to prevent the algae.

Yes, you are experiencing a very normal part of the cycling process. The diatom bloom will be followed by a green hair algae bloom. With proper husbandry all will go away on its own. Continue to use RO/DI water if you aren't already. ;)

AHHHHHH algae attack within the first couple of weeks of setting up a tank.

That is extremly rare! :lmao: :crazy1: :spin1: :spin2:

The only thing I can suggest is start reading.... please dont take this the wrong way... but if you didnt know about the algae bloom on new tanks then you havent read enough on the hobby. Please take time to read as much as you can.

don't add chemicals, you'll just delay the inevitable. Ride it out like others have said. It's a natural progression for a reef tank..... kinda like a birthday! Drinks on the house :D
