Help

Another way you can lower PH (and much more effective) is using seltzer water. I always keep a liter of Sam's Choice Sodium Free Seltzer water around. Preferably you want something with just water and carbon dioxide. I don't have a formula for how much to add, but it will bring the PH down very rapidly, so you'll want to add it slowly. Generally, you'll see the results within 30 seconds or less.

How are you adding your kalkwasser? Hopefully, you were dripping it as I advised. Did something happen to make it start dripping faster? I once accidentally added about a half gallon of kalkwasser, thinking it was plain water, and I had pretty much the same thing happen, except my PH shot up to over 9. There didn't seem to be any lasting damage, so I think you're tank will be fine as well. Anyway, let us know exactly what happened, and hopefully we can prevent it from happening again.

I have a float gravity feed top off , and My sump was low I still had some water in my top off contianer so I just poured in my gal of kalkwater , well the sump was low and it just let it fill up with the kalk Im not sure how long it took to add it since I went to bed right after I added it. I should have seen it was low before adding the kalk to the top off jug. But i was really tired from working all night and I just added it. It wont happen again like that. It looks like everything is ok. from now on ill drip it in instead of adding it to the top off. Has anyone used an IV bag from the hospital to dose your tank? My mother in law just got me one to try.

I've never used an IV bag, but it seems like that should work just fine. You'll have to clean it out from time time with vinegar because the lime deposits will eventually clog it up, but that goes for just about any drip device.
