I know this may sound really bad since this is my hobby, but I have no clue what to do when it comes to the equipment side. Last week I had issues with the sump and the skimmer coming back on after power outage and the skimmer has done it again this week. I'm wondering if it is just time for a new system down under. I would like to have a new sump since I only have a 30 gallon for a 150 gallon ( I know it sucks), but I don't know anything about installing them. Both my husband and I are military and need someone to help once in awhile cleaning and maintance if there is anyone in the area of Clarksville.

30g for 150g isn't too bad. At least you have a sump! Some people don't!

It doesn't sound bad at all. One thing I love about this hobby is that there is never too much to learn. It is a continuous knowledge thing... I find that fun. :)

So, first, where do you want to put the sump? Are you just putting it in the stand?

Also, what does the skimmer do when the power goes out? Overflow?

Oh I have the passion for these tanks just not when it comes to the under carriage. Well, when the power goes out it takes like twelve times of plugging it in and out before it ever kicks on, but like this time I unplugged while I was doing some maintance yesterday and it has not been able to come back on since then. Yes, I want to get at least a 55 gallon or so and put it underneath the tank.

Sounds like the pump needs cleaning, The Magnet on the pump get covered with gunk and impedes the motor from working properly and starting when turned off. Take the pump out and take it apart and clean it b4 you replace it. This could be your only problem and it's easily fixed. The size of your sump has little to do with the pump problem.
