Hi,

A few days ago I´ve noticed that my two hepatus started to pic on an acropora that recently entered the reef. I know that they are beautiful fishes...

... I really don´t know what to do!!!

Does anyone experienced this kind of event???!! I wonder if they are missing something in terms of nutrition! I´d like some opinions.

Thanks,
Diogo

I've seen mine nip at a leather, but he's pretty well fed, so he doesn't do that too often. How often do you feed, and do they have nori to munch on all day? That may help, if you give them something else to munch. They graze all day, and seem to always want to do something with their mouths. Mine picks up all the hermit shells off the bottom and moves them all over the tank. Sometimes, there's a scared hermit in those shells who is happy for the ride to be over when it is dropped. Yes, he's a brat, but very entertaining.

You say its a newly introduced Acro? I would guess it is sliming up pretty good, and the tangs are targeting the slime. Hepatus tangs are known to be more omnivorous than other tangs, so algae and veggies are not the only things they will need to eat. Ive read of tangs that chase bubbles in order to consume the lipids and proteins which coat them. I wonder if your tangs are eating the slime for additional nutritional resources. Do they do this to any other SPS?

Hi,

Thanks for your replys. They started pic onto another acropora (this time one that´s in the tank for a long time). I´ll trie to give them some nori...

They are feed several times a day with a lot of diferent food sources.

Cheers,
Diogo
