Here goes...can I get a tang?

I have a 54g corner tank with all of the rocks toward the back so the front portion (where it is widest) is wide open. Current fish are one pseudochromis, two clowns, and a yellow clown goby. I also have starfish, soft corals, shrimp, and your usual clean up crew.

Would a yellow tang be okay in my tank? My LFS has a small one (maybe 2 inches, if that). Would it be okay in my tank even when it grows up? If not, how long would it be before it required a new home?

If you're using that thread to say that "75g is the minimum tank size", then how about the "how long would it be before it required a new home?" part of my question? Could I keep the fish for a while and then either upgrade my tank or send him along to a new home?

Skip the tang unles the new tank is already in the works. These fish like a lot of swimming room even when young.

I'm so sorry but I also vote "no" - not only for the tang, but for your other fish --- yellow tangs can become belligerent & harass your other fish & the smaller the tank, the more of a problem that will be :(

IMO the whole tang and 4 feet thing is moot. It depends largely on the genus of tang. In any case that tank shape is just not tang friendly.

Lemonpeels are one of the worst dwarf angels. Flame angel or coral beauty would be better choices.

No tangs unless you can meet the minimum requirements! 1 Million gallons per fish:lol:

Mar:rollface:

A Lemon Damsel almost look like a YT, without the big tank requirement.. their max size is about 3"

I had a yellow tang in my 55g till last week. he was doing great but was becoming far too aggressive for my liking. he was flashing every fish in the tank from my blue throat trigger to my ghost eel....in a small tank they become way too agressive to keep small attractive fish. I traded mine in to my LFS for a lemonpeel angel(BEAUTIFUL fish!)...so far no problems at all...only been in there a week so we will see if its long term or not! so I vote no from experience...but in the end its your call! best of luck to you!
