Here it is at last, my new tank build thread!!!

have you thought about reflectors for those VHO actinic lights?

Seems like the rest of the room is getting a good amount of that blue that should be going into your tank. You have the best for the halides but nothing on those VHO, what gives?

Everything looks great, so was it her idea for the plasma? I gotta get the soon to be wife to counter fish upgrades with high end electronics instead of puppies and saving for the future. Whats your secret?

I have thought about reflectors for the VHO but I thought the reflectors in the bulbs were sufficent.

Where do you find reflectors for VHO? Dont want to buy hoods just to tear out the reflectors in them. I would get some if I could make them work

She thinks the plasma was her idea, I just kept the old TV sitting next to the corner of the tank that was blocked by about 8" and kept saying it will be fine, not much going on in that corner anyway, it will look fine, etc

Finally she said we just need a new TV there. So now there is one

No sand or water in the tank yet, had two leaks show up on final test and having a ***** of a time fixing them. They are very small drips that I cant seem to stop and I am avoiding tearing down the entire drainage system to tear apart and reglue.

If I cant fix them I am throwing in the towel and starting over on the drainage with individual piping for each overflow, maybe go with spaflex

I am transfering part of the contents of the old tank to the new one, selling the rest. So quite a bit fo stuff will be coming up for sale corals, LR, live sand, equipment etc

I should be able to do a 90 gallon water change in about 15 minutes which I will be very happy about

VHO's do not require a reflector. They have built in Reflect on the top of the bulbs so they shine down.

What are you using to try and fix the leeks? I had a small drip on my old 240 and used 100% Silicone while the tank was running and never had a problem after that.

i guess it all depends where the leak is in his tank, on what he could use to stop the leaks. TRY SOME BAR'S RADIATOR STOP LEAK.LOL!!!!

Okay, ordered some reflectors today for the VHO should help some.

And now...............(drumroll)

It begins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put sand in tonight and starting the fill, will take a while as you can see in the pics, filling it from my rodi unit

Sand is 150 lbs Oolite, 100 lbs .5-1mm and 100 lbs 1mm reef mix. Also put 100 lbs southdown in my sump

I figure 5-7 day to fill

drip drip drip!! Wow I did that on my 240 and that took forever. Going down and checking on it seeing if it raised at all.

I found out mine didn't make 100 gpd like they say.

I still have some stuff to do, so this gives me a chance to catch up around the house. I figure over a week to fill, as my total water volumn I figure is around 600 gallons

I have one more 55 gal drum to fill other than that I should have enough.. I hope any way with that drum I will have around 250gallons Less rock so I should be okay. Don't know if I will have time to move the tank over this weekend or not.

the 100gpd rating is at ideal conditions ie. perfect water pressure and temp. usually varies quite a bit.

Especially in this cold weather- brrr! It will take a bit longer. But well worth every drip!

I better starts saving up now!!!

Can't wait to see the tank, the bowfront was beautiful so I can't imagine this one...

That always looks so frigging silly , an ro/di dripping into a huge tank. Its almost comical, it appears that it could take forever.

I hope you didn't get reflectors on my account/suggestion. I know they are supposed to have built in reflectors but your room was blue with those things on. Seemed like a lot of wasted light getting scattered all over your walls and not in the tank.

No I wanted reflectors but couldnt find any. Finally found some cheap at Marine depot, and since I was ordering a Mag10 magnet anyway, free shipping. Whats another $40 at this point LOL

Thanks for the comments. Things should start getting exciting for me in the comming weeks as the tank starts to take shape
