Here we go again! Custom Starfire 10 gallon

Well, I started out in saltwater tanks about 3 years ago with the Fluval Chi tank in my other thread.

Obviously the bug bit me and I may just have the knack for nano tanks, so I called up Glasscages.com and had a tank custom built to match a table I built in high school back in 01'.

$350 later and a few weeks for the silicone to cure, I transferred everything from the Chi 6.6 over to the new 10. Also added an additional AC20 on top of the Intank basket AC50 I already have, both running carbon/chemipureelite/purigen bags. An additional actinic Truelumens 24v strip was added and a dimmer installed for all 3 channels; 2 actinic one 10k white. Blue leds for moonlight and a 12v fan to keep the sinks cool.

Running alternate depths on the intakes for the filters, and everything loves the flow.

Ever since the tank swap everything has taken off. Sure the extra lighting and flow helped lol.

You'll want to keep an eye on those nuclear green palys. I started with a small 2 head frag, and one year later they have taken over my tank!

They are the one coral that will not make the move to the new tank. I would add these to the "weed" category for corals, like GSP or BSP.

Im noticing that with the extra flow, filtration and lighting increase ive had to dial back the lighting to slow growth because it is absolutely explosive with all 3 channels at 100%.

Noticed what are probably some pods, maybe small tiggerpods, come out when I cut the filters off for feeding. Been adding them to the tank every few days.

I wish i'd have done a false wall in this tank before using it lol. Oh well, live and learn.

Im thinking of doing a smaller lagoon tank next.

Your tank is amazing! I am just setting up a Nuvo fusion 10. And can't wait to get some corals and a fish. Deciding between a clown or clown goby.
How much water change do you do weekly?
What do you feed the corals?

Ill typically do a few gallons every 4-5 months. But this tank is all well established, just transplanted from tank to another.

Just did a 4 gallon water change and used that water to restart the Fluval Chi I just turned into an AIO.

The corals are mostly photosynthetic, but theyll eat flake, pellet, frozen cyclops, tigger pods, and phytofeast.

I use Microbacter7, Kents CoralVite, Purpleup and Coralup along with oceans blend part 1&2.

Pictures tomorrow during the light cycle. Rearranged the rock, I like it. I had the Leds dialed back for awhile, so the polyps lost the green hue.

I love your watermelon zoa and now I want one!!! I am adding this to my list to research and see if would work in my tank ..I'm still a few weeks out but starting to plan.

I love the watermelon zoas too. Baby snails and starfish on the glass, and a little algae to clean off. Dialed the lighting back up and dosing Coralup! again to bring some color back.

I'll probably tweak the rock structure some but for the most part I'm pretty happy with it.

Been awhile. This tank crashed after Irma came through and we lost power for a week. Went out about 4 days in and grabbed a generator.

The smaller Chi tank didn't do as bad as this one. Weird cause this one has a larger water volume and way more liverock in it.

Didn't completely lose the tank; I was able to save it from a complete crash.

All fish and the larger snails died, most of the coral too. The Polyps seemed untouched. Lost a few Zoas. The Acro almost completely died, 3 small sections rebounding back from the outside. The Acro was a 3 inch by 4 inch encrusted rock. The Kenya Trees even died.

It's doing much better now.

I have decided to also convert this tank into an AIO. With the high success of converting the Chi over, and the fact that you're now working with the actual footprint of the tank. I'll finally be able to fabricate a low profile lid out of sealed pine to match the table underneath.

Your tank was absolutely gorgeous!
That's devastating to lose a tank full of life. I was transferring my fish and corals once, and overnight left a heater in a large bin filled with softies. The heater overheated . ... sigh.
But regroup, learn and start again!!!!
