here's a question

i have a dart on a closed loop but i'm thinking of switching over to some tunze's. now if i want to stop the closed loop would it be best to drain it and plug the outlets and inlet so that there isn't any water left in the pipes?

i think i know the answer but if i can get away with just leaving it as is for a while i'd rather do that than have to drain and plug up the loop.

anyway, dumb question, i know.

Why are you switching?

I would not leave it off, full of water, for an extended length of time.

No need to drain the tank to remove it. Just use the appropriate sized plugs and plug the bulkheads with them (I'd use some aquarium silicone sealant on them) and once plugged you can remove the rest.

yeah that's what i was thinking. i was just thinking about changing out because of the wattage difference and the thought of pulling the dart off again this year to clean it is making me sick, it's a pain.

plus with a 7095 multicontroller i could set up some cool current.

who knows, i'm just thinking about it so i more than likely won't do it.

oh and i have fish going in and out of the fish trap now but not the one i want to catch. sheesh.

i guess a bit more of a wait, eh?

Plug the holes, take it off, clean it, put valves and unions on it so the next time it will be easy. I'd bet the actual difference in cost in running the two set-ups is minimal. Put the pump on a timer and let it go on and off.
