I need to add a pair to my reef. I have an out break of asternia star fish. my question is will my 6 line wrass or my royal grama eat them?

I had mine in with my old 6 line and it now in there with my mystery wrasse and my other assorted wrasses.

no. i had both, and still a major outbreak of asterinas. The harlequin will work..just remember to keep feeding him after they are all gone.

Just curious though, how is this a topic for people who are obsessed with SPS corals

Ya from what i have raed this type of star fish when there is no food will start to eat Sps. thats the only reason i posted in the Sps fourm.

Are asterinas enough to keep these shrimp fed?? For some reason I always pictured them needing big "full size" star fish. This is good news, because I have tons of asterinas!!

I feed my pair a chocolate chip star every other week..

They can live on asterinas as long as they don't run out..

halequins will devour the asternias, just be prepared with a linckia or chocolate chip star on hand for when the population gets demolished

I even use to cut and freeze an arm off my live Chocolate chip starfish (sounds cruel, I know) and then put the starfish in a separate tank to regenerate it. I kept 5 at a time so there was enough time to heal for each. Harlequins ate it; worked for me.

Yes, as reefbuzz says, get a few, keep them in the sump, cut off an arm periodically and let them regenerate.

harliers exterminate any stars. cheapest way to keep them after all asterinas are gone is buy 4 chocolate chip stars for your fuge. then weekly, cut off a leg on one. each week a different star, that way they can regrow their legs. :)
