Hermit crab can't decide

I offered my hermit crab a new shell. He currently has 3 anemones attached to his current one and caught him moving the new one. I wanted to catch him moving the anemones over but i think he said to himself "Screw it, too much trouble to move the anemones" and booked it back to his old shell.

Btw, he is in a small 6 gal tank temporarily since the main fish only tank where he normally resides is being coppered for ich.

Just a guess but maybe the new shell was a little too large? Seem to have some trouble maneuvering.

wont the copper be absorbed by the sand and rocks in the tank and later leached out back into the system?

Not sure but i'll make sure the copper is not detectable for months prior to putting him back in.
