Hermit crab ID? Reef safe?

Is this a reef safe hermit crab? It looks like dwarf zebra hermit but can't be too sure about that. It's about 1cm

The coloring is wrong for a dwarf zebra. It's a neat looking hermit, though.

Yup I've never seen this pattern and color before. Hopefully it's reef safe.
Anyone??? It's still in a small container. And i have a tank with algae waiting for more cuc to clean up.

It's a blackbanded harlequin hermit. A VERY unknown species. Sorry but I don't know much about it.

Thanks that helped me a lot! Nothing came up with 'blackbanded' but it did made me found something similar or the same, it's pagarus hedleyi(pink banded hermit) heh. Good thing I threw it into the fuge since it's not well known.

I don't think it's pagarus hedleyi but the resemblence is very well seen.. (Unless this guy is a baby and will get huge to look more like it, pagarus hedleyi is very hairy and grey rather than white)

Nonetheless you can sleep at night if it's in the fuge. He looks reef safe to me but I don't want to gamble away your corals.

This is just my opinion, but you might as well just want to put it in the DT regardless.. It can't do any more damage than a peppermint shrimp can do in 24 hours IMO.

Tit's pagarus hedleyi(pink banded hermit) heh. Good thing I threw it into the fuge since it's not well known.

It's a Pagurixus sp. and mostly safe but crab is going to be crab from time to time.

I was thinking of snagging hermits from my local tidepools... They are coldwater Pacific, but I previously took a crab from the Monterey Bay into my warm water all fish marine tank and he lived a happy life for a half year until he found a way to crawl out of the tank. He even shed a few times. (I won't be doing regular crabs, but maybe hermits).

Not a good idea if you are keeping a warm reef tank. I know people that gather snails from our coast and put them in their tanks for algae control. The snails won't live long in the warmer water and I suspect the hermits would suffer the same outcome.

You would also need to have a fishing license and make sure what you are collecting is legal.

Those hermits are very nice looking, but then again, I prefer the hermits to all other marine life. I would love to find some of those when I get a SW tank up and running.
