hermit crab ID?

hey all! i'm new here

i just got a hermit crab and i was wondering if anyone could ID it. in the store it was called "blue eyed" hermit crab, but i can't really find any info. anyone know another name for this species?

it's got blue eyes and a big brown claw with white lining along the pincher

anyone know of the species name?

Zebra crab, Calcinus laevimanus. Excellent scavenger & algae eater.

it's weird how stuff gets the same name. i already had a zebra hermit but it is a Calcinus seurati (which is way more deserving of the name) but now i have a Calcinus laevimanus as well.

Yeah, that's why I don't like common names. They just cause too much confusion especially when people start arguing about whether something is reef safe or behavior. All too often they're using the same common name but are actually referring to different species.

I have about a half dozen of these, just recently, one has taken home in my star polyps, hopefully he doesn't kill em off, I love these hermits

That's what I thought, lol I like it, it's pretty nice, for an affordable digi that takes up close pics anyway
