hermit crabs??

There is a inlet near where I live in Brooklyn new York and along the banks in the sand are hundreds on small black hermit crabs. Would I be able to put them in my fowlr tank?

Do they leave the water? They might be a tidal species that would be constantly crawling out.

Those hermit crabs you find in Brooklyn will not live long in your reef or fish only. I have collected them dozens of times. My avatar is one of them that I photographed at night in the Sound. They generally live a few weeks, they eat good and run around but I think the water is to warm. Those grass shrimp you catch there will live over a year if they don't jump out and those rock crabs will also live forever, but they get big.

+1 on the hermit crabs not lasting long.

I've collected the same thing in Charleston, Sc in both winter and summer. They only last a few weeks. Run around the sand and won't climb anything big.
