This one's much bigger, around 2", and lives in the 65g FOWLR:
There's also an electric orange in that tank, around 1.5". I love big hermits, nearly bought a starry at the LFS yesterday but I've heard horror stories about them so I passed even though they're gorgeous.
if you get the red hairy hermit as pictured above youll be alright because they get large and are aggressive. other hermits are too small and can eventually get chewed up by the mouth of the trigger.
I took this a while back and forgot all about it, here are two of my Hawaiians playing 'King of the Castle'. They climb up the rockwork, and even on top of each other, trying to see who can be the highest. They'll throw each other off the rocks too, these guys are hilarious to watch
hermits bring life to an aquarium and i guess thats why ive always been interested in them. my two large hermits are the size of a baseball and are so strong that they can rearrange my decorations in the tank. its a crazy sight to see!
it seems as if there is an error on your attachment 55gSW. hey Paul B that is a cool lookin hermit. what would you say was the largest hermit youve ever seen while scuba diving?
Dirk I once saw a hermit crab eating a barracuda in Martinique.
The crab was about 9" across and the fish was about a foot.
In New York they only get about an inch.
