Hermit out of his shell ?!?!

I came home to my hermit out of his shell. Anyone ever see anything like this?
Is he just flashing nude or is he in trouble?

May have been removed by a larger hermit who wanted this ones shell.

I noticed he is missing a leg. Found it on a monti cap.

Last night the herm went back in his shell and today I came home to a dead hermie... Can he be the pray of the snapping shrimp? Do you know if snapping shrimp would eat a hermit crab?

Shrimp are carnivores. It may or may not kill the hermit crab, but if the crab died, the shrimp would very likely eat it. It's a reef environment, critters kill and eat each other all the time.

They come out to molt - at least mine have. I can't see the pic real well on my phone so just throwing this out there. You sure you're not seeing a molt and think it's a dead crab?

The crab is leg less I pulled him out the tank.
