hermit shells

i was at an arts and crafts store today and found a large bag of assorted shells . i was wondering if any one has used them in their tank before being that it says "for decoration only". its hard to find good shells for them so i was thinking of washing them good and adding

i wouldnt personally, especially if they are shiny like the have been gloss coated

no they're dull almost like they been cleaned with an acid type cleaner maybe

I would be worried about it leaching phosphates or maybe silica or something. I would pass. Most LFS have shells laying around somewhere that you can either buy for like 10 cents or just get for free with a purchase. Tropical Aquarium in Brunswick has some. Hector has a little basket at the checkout with shells.

yea ive seen them but i got large hermits so most of the shells are to small. same with the ones at AT. no big deal the bag costed me $2 so no big loss just tired of loosing snails

I've used the craft store ones many times before. For $2 a bag, what could they afford to do to them?

If you come up to AT on a day im there i can dig up a bunch of mexican turbo shells. Theres tons on the bottoms of the rock bins.
