Hermit suggestions???

I might be starting a crab only tank soon (lots of you know already), and I'm looking for unique hermit species. Any ideas?

Nothing like the basic species though (blue legs, red legs, scarlets). Rare, colourful species you don't see often. They can't be too expensive either.

Electric blue/blue knuckle are my personal favorite for the setup you're doing.

Halloween hermits also blend in nice with electric blue but I think they only wear cone shells iirc.

I love the electric blue and electric orange hermits too, but they can be from 9-15 bucks usually. A little expensive for little hermit crabs.:D

Same with the halloween hermits. If I do get one though I've got a ton of cone shells so no probo with that.

I saw a really neat looking hermit crab at the lfs a couple of weeks ago though. They had no tag for it, and it was definitely in the 'left handed hermit crab' group (zebra hermits, electric hermits). It was dark orange with hints of black everywhere and blue eyes. About 1 inch long.

How do you post pics on here? I've got a pic of what it looked like.

Like that?

You forgot the IMG], I edited it into the quote.

That guy I'm not familiar with. Seen them before but I don't have an id.

Excepting the eyes, it looks like an orange claw hermit, calcinus tibicen. I'm not sure how much color variation there can be in a species, though.

If it is calcinus tibicin, is it reef safe? I'd love to get one. And does anyone know anything about broad hand coral hermits? I really like those too.

I can tell by looking at that guy he's reef safe when well fed. Kinda the same case as blue knuckle.

Can you find a picture of the broad hand hermit crab you're talking about as I'm not seeing anything specific when searching.

You're doing it right I just don't think it's copying and pasting correctly for you :D remember to make sure those tags are there at the beginning and end after pasting.

That is a gorgeous crab.. wish I knew anything about it! I never seen that one before.

My lfs can order in anything. Octos, sharks, rays, whatever you want. They could probably order them in. Right now they've got a probably 2 foot long clown triggerfish for $349, and a mimic octopus for $64. They get in some pretty crazy stuff!

I love me some hermits. By far my favorite invertebrates in my tank. I have about 10 blue legs, 5 red legs, and 1 halloween hermit crab. My blue legs are so aggressive and love to battle amongst each other which is great to watch. The halloween has thus far strayed away from the shenanigans but will hold crabs hostage from time to time while he picks at their shells cleaning them up a bit. One of my blue legs assassinated a large turbo snail for his shell and looks hilarious in it. For some reason, about once a month he will camp out in either my large birdsnest or green montipora digitata for days at a time. At first I would be worried he was snagged up and couldn't get out with his big goofy shell but that was quickly proven wrong when I would move him 2.5-3 feet away from the coral and he'd be right back in it within a few minutes. If I can find it, i'll have to post this video I took with 3 blue legs involved in a battle royale.

Marine hermits are the reason I want to get into SW tanks. Love the hermits.

I have the electric blue and orange hermits. After seeing them in person, I can never buy another Scarlett. Next up is a Halloween crab.
