Woke up this morning to my BTA scaling the side of my tank. He's now hanging upside down from the top the tank. I checked and he is firmly attached to the inside rim, so he's not DOA. Is this normal for these guys. I've had him since wednesday so he's still acclimating but he has held his ground very well and color is outstanding.

Here's the little guy

bta's love flow..and will avidly seek it out...i would make sure he doesnt find his way into your koralia on the other side of the tank...he clearly wasnt happy with the flow in the spot you placed him..and is looking for a better spot..

try redirecting the flow to where you want him...he may climb back down...

I'm using to Koralia #3's pointed right at eachother. I thought there was tons of flow in his direction. I'll play with th flow and see what happens.

What type of lighting do you have? It may be seeking more light, hence heading up to the top. Most anemones like high lighting...mine stay directly where the MH 150's are the strongest, mid tank.

definitely cover up that koralia. there's a good chance your BTA will wander into it and get completely shredded. It may look kinda tacky, but it'll buy peace of mind!

Being able to "keep" an anemone under PC lighting and having it "thrive" are 2 very different things. It may survive under PC lighting but IMO it will never be totally happy, prone to roaming and will eventually waste away. The T5's are a little better but I have always kept my 'nems under MH lighting.

I actually believe PC lighting is ideal for BTA's. I've had them live for years, spawn, and clone under PCs. It is important to have the right spectrum and to have the substrate to which they are attached high enough in the water column so that the anemone is within 12 inches or so of the bulbs.

Along with water flow, you want to provide a cave or an overhang in the live rock where the anemone can attache the pedal disc. They seem to especially like to have their foot attached under the overhang and then curving out and up, making sort of a "J" shape with their column.

I think he has finally found a nice spot. And it looks fantastic where he is positioned as well. I will take a pic when I get out of the office today.
