He's pregnant! Now what?

Well happy birthday to these 100 something new seahorses! They were born in the morning before the lights came on.

Unfortunately rotifers didn't come in until today, so fry haven't been given a continuous feed from the beginning so I doubt they'll make it.

So small and cute! Best iphone pics I could get. Just so tiny.

And a skinnier dad!

And agreed, that is a gorgeous macro tank. I haven't tried any corals in my seahorse tank, only gorgs. The colors really pop!

Came home and there were actually some fry left alive. Was surpised they didn't all go down the overflow while I was gone.

Finally got a decent shot here

Here's the little setup. Probably not ideal, but it works I guess.

Trouble I'm having is how many rotifers do I feed for about 15 seahorses? And how much nannochloropsis should I be putting to feed the rotifers? Also how can I acclimate the rotifers to the different salinity of the nursery tank (b/c there's quite a lot that got shocked from the sudden change).

I've always cultured the rotifers and brine shrimp at 1.017 and when I get fry, I lower their s.g. to the same.
I've never measured the amount of live foods I add, but keep an eye on things so that if they are consuming what I put in in short order, I make sure I'm adding more. As for the nanno in there, as long as there is reasonable colouring you have enough, it doesn't have to be dark.
Don't forget heavy aeration, and, frequent water changes with completely wiping/cleaning any slime build up on the container and hitching when you get to hitching.
Hitching for reidi usually averages around 2 weeks.

Scroll down on THIS thread to see a picture of Dan Underwood's tub with recent fry.

Okay awesome. I've been observing them and how many rotifers there are and hopefully not over/underfeeding.

I changed out all the water and scrubbed the jar down. Slowly lowered the salinity for the seahorses and added new rotifers. So far all are alive, but 1 or 2 look very weak.

Oh and great link, thank you. Should prob start building one.

awesome thread, I googled some pics and info on Rainbow acans and found reef central and saw this thread as I am plumbing a large refugium for my 300. The gas or bloat disease caught my eye along with this post. The gas or bloat issue concerns me a bit honestly as I hope for happy horses that pair and breed.
