hey all! Back from 3 days at the beach!..Need a snail ID.

BTW, ricks direction with the shell ID was what put me in the right direction for research! THANKS!

All of the ones shown are terebra, or augers. Wouldn't try it in a reef system, but it would be good food for my mantis shrimp...if you're not going to use it, it could become part of nature.:)

no problemo... :)

ya, I use gastropods.com too, but it's worldwide and has lots to pick from if you don't know the family name at least.

it'll be a nice addition to your shell collection.. :D

It looks like they are bad for my reef, but if anyone else wants them they are free to a good home.....(or to a good home feeding program)

From my experience when I collected snails the ones that would eat other snails all had snorkel things on them. The ones that would not eat eatchother did not have them. I guess the thing I have that I thought was a conch is really a whelk. He is about 3 inches long. I thought it was a fighting conch but maybe not. All I know is that he ha sa snorkel thing and he eats other snails. I currently only have one or two tiny snails left in my tank because the whelk/conch ate all of them. From now on if I want to keep good snails I will will remove anything with a snorkel on it.
