Hey everyone

This is my first post in this forum, and on RC in general.

I'm from Olive Branch, but recently "moved" to Hernando, MS.

As of currently I'm living in Starkville, MS (MSU ASE-Astro student).

I've done all kinds of freshwater tanks for years, from heavy planted CO2 supplemented tanks, to small african annual killie tanks. Though my favorite had to be a desktop hets. formosa tank I had for the longest in a big glass cookie jar.

Since my 10g had a heater failure back during the cold spell, i lost most everything, so now I'm left with a ~3gal tank with some bare rock in it waiting for me to stock it with something. I'm also in the planning stages of building an 18x18x18 glass cube with a 10gal sump. DIY in nearly every way, from the foam back wall and aragacrete rocks to the high power LED lighting and the ATmega168 "brain". It's still in the planning and basic parts gathering, so it's all subject to change.

Sorry, no recent pictures seeing as I really don't have much worth pictures. :(

So in conclusion, I'm glad to be here! any questions/comments about me, my tanks, building rockets, or just anything really.... I'll be glad to respond! :)

Hope soon schedules will work out so that I can make it up there for a meeting or something.

Welcome aboard. You will find veterans in the club that can answer many questions at the meetings. Our meetings are usually at a member's house, but the next one will be at the IMAX in Memphis on the 21st. Stop in and meet some of our club members.

Glad to have you aboard. Watch the forum for updates on the upcoming meetings and maybe you can join us.

We can always use another Mississippian.

Thanks everyone, I usually work on the weekends(bummer, I know) but ya gotta do what you've gotta do to support the bills and this overly expensive hobby!

I think my little tanks are about ready to start stocking. I'm thinking some chaeto, mushrooms and zoas to get me started. Anywhere local good for those? It's been a while since I've been able to head to kermits, and I've never been to memfish.

Anyhow, my idea in the meantime is to set this up so that it'll be two plumbed together twin 3g(8x8x11 the size of a sheet of notebook paper) tanks side by side, one to be the little zoa/shroom (and possibly even a sexy or two) desktop tank. The other will serve as a refugium to help me live up some more rock and get me some good coraline/pods/chaeto going to help share with the larger tank down the road.

Well... in that case, Welcome to RC, ya' Noob. It ain't rocket science. (Unlike your studies of Bernoulli's principle...)

This group is full of detritus and helpful advise; the challenge is to filter the latter from the former, less our attitude of course.

Come to a meeting and I'll make a 'Shroom contribution to you're tank. just 'cause your in aerospace.

Also, if you want, I've also got a back issues of Aviation Week & Space Technology, if you'd like them.

You know, the guy that owns/manages the lfs here mentioned a guy/place in oxford that had some nice corals... wonder if he was talking about you? I do make it through there though, from time to time. Quite a many friends there, and taking 9 down to Starkville is a good scenic getaway from 45, imho.

Mako: That sounds awesome! Though I'm current on the past several years worth of Aviation Week. They're making a subscription to that, and AIAA membership almost mandatory for the intro to flight mechanics and intro to aerospace classes(several years ago for me).

I'm in Cleveland and one of my good friends in Columbus just hooked up a 180 gallon. I can give you his contact info if you would like to ask him where he gets his from. I have been to a shop in Starkville while I was in school. I can't remember the name though. It wasn't far from the Starkville Cafe.

gone fishin. ;)

That's the place, they are good folks in there. Not much of a selection SW wise because they aren't set up for reef livestock. He's offered to order me in anything I need though. I know there's a fish store in Columbus too, and several in Tuscaloosa, but if I'm going to make that drive I'd probably just go to Memphis, or keep going to see my dad over in Birmingham.

And on days like today I'm almost tempted to hold off a few months further on the big tank construction and put the funds into a used motorcycle to make these road trips on! Besides, the savings in gas has the potential to pay for itself in short order. When I'm in Starkville I'm in a perfect launching position to make it to the beach(~4 hours), Memphis(~2 hours), Birmingham(~2.5 hours), New Orleans(~5 hours) and Atlanta(~5hours)... it's like a day-trip road trip heaven, complete with enough bored engineers to make trips a possibility.
