Hey man, I just got another little clown for to replace the male GSm I lost of that pair I bought. the new one is not tiny, but considerably smaller. However, my female seems to be a bit scared of it and has let the new one chase her around the tank. she even strayed form her spot for a very extended period of time.. any advice?

Just kidding of course.

Based on your other post in MTRC, it seems like the new GSM is just trying to make friends and the old GSM is just scared of a strange face.

How big is the old one? But if the new one is considerably smaller, then it will probably be fine.

If there is a large enough size difference between them, then it should be fine. It is best when pairing maroons to start with a large female and introduce a very small juvenile fish. It sounds like that is what you have done. Hopefully your female will assert her dominance over the little guy and they will pair-up. Keep us updated on their behaviors :)

matt,

just before lights out, the Existing female was doing some serious chasing and did a good job of it. She got her spot back last night and all was well. today, she is being chased and has relegated to a corner of the tank. the new one is all over. When I first put them in, I had a Hawkfish that chased the little male to death and rather went after the female too. since then, she mainly hid around the pump return. it is good to see her about, but I sorta feel that first experience in the tank has effected her. that and I also think this new one may have already gone female. if this is the case, then I guess I will have to give up one before it is too late. we will just have to see...any advice is greatly appreciated.
