Hey guys!

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to say hey to everyone since I am new to the site! I actually joined last year sometime, but I just recently set up my new tank!

I was refered to this site by a guy named John that was helping me look for some live rock. He said that there are a bunch of helpful folks on this site and I am sure that I will have plenty of questions as my tank matures.

I just set up a 46 gallon bowfront last weekend. I set up the tank with lights (Coralife compacts), skimmer (AquaC Remora Pro), 350 Biowheel filter and about a 3" live sand bed. The problem is that I basically ran out of my fun money for the moment and I am lacking live rock! :(

I went to a LFS and got some great Lace Rock, so I have the look down, but I need some live rock to go with it. If anyone knows of any good deals around my area let me know.

Anyways, I look forward to sharing my tank with you guys as it progesses!

Welcome! LR is hard to get a good deal on but sometimes you can get some from somebody breaking down a tank. Watch Craig list, the sunday ads and watch the forums. You can also buy some base rock and mix with live rock. Soon you will have all live rock.

Thanks for all of the replies guys!
Yeah, I have been watching craigslist like a hawk, i even put a Wanted add on there! So far, people on Craigslist haven't been willing to part out any live rock (only package deals). I will just need to be patient.:)

I don't have any live rock, as a matter of fact I need some my self to seed my base rock.

I just wanted to say welcome.

Yep, I was in Coral Reef Aquatics yesterday and picked up a small piece of LR to do a little aquascaping in my 75g. CRA keeps two big vats full of LR most of the time. I think the prices may vary depending on the quality of the rock...not sure about that though. I paid $7 per pound for a nice light piece that was fully cured, which is not bad at all for LFS pricing. You can get it online cheaper, but once you add shipping and consider the resulting die off, I'm not sure you come out ahead...you might if you're getting a lot at once to start at tank with.
HTH,
Mariner

I didn't know there was place in Athens! I'm gonna go check them out tommorow. I really just need a couple of pieces (for now).

Hey, I have a question. I read that while I am cycling my tank with very little live rock, that is best to NOT have the protein skimmer on. Is that what you guys recommend? It makes sense to me, so I have gone ahead and shut it off for the time being.

Welcome,

I have been told to run your skimmer from day one, that is what I did and it took about a month for my tank to cycle.

I went to Coral Reef Aquatics today! That place is amazing and the owner was very helpful. I picked up some nice live rock. I let him know that you guys told me about him.

Thanks everyone!
