Interesting ideas and well intentioned, but I'm pretty sure RC doesn't want to limit new members from engaging. This is just counterproductive to the purpose of forums. But I understand where you're coming from.
We all just have to do a better job at educating everyone. Creating awareness, Changing peoples perception of marine pets, etc. If you see something wrong, be nice, but poignantly tell them why it's wrong, the repercussions and the solution.
For example, whenever I see that thread, "My new hippo tang in my 20 gallon tank." Aside from all the obvious reasons, I like to add information that (as nice as possible
) this isn't a problem just for this fish, but sustainability as a whole. People want to ban our hobby, don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution... Return that fish!
I think that's our only solution here on RC, besides challenging bad LFS's to stop turning a quick buck and instead create a life long customer. Perhaps we should start asking the name of these LFS's that are doing this.
