i recently got a few frags of zoas from a fellow reefer that piced them up at a frag swap...im supposed to have reverse gorillia nipples, deepwater blues,a yellow and PURPLE DEATH...and there is one frag that belongs to her but since they where all closed she didnt know which was which....

the yellow and the gorillia nipples are easy...what i thought was the purple deaths im not so sure of now since the polyps are only like 1/4in across....the other ones that i think could be a possibility are kinda maroon colored instead of the electric purple but have the correct polyp size of around 3/8 to 1/2in across.....

could the purple deaths just be a different color under my lights? and just need time to get acclimated to the different lighting?

no to happy right now due to thinkin i got had since i was buying coral over text and maybe the seller didnt know what they had....any ideas?

im trying to get some pics now since the lites just kicked on and stuff is starting to open up.

thanks

Pd's could look different in different lighting schemes and placement in the tank

PD getting blasted with 8 T5's, turning brownish purple but growing large do to good flow and feeding.

same PD under newer lighting and not getting blasted directly by light but with good strong un-direct flow

Purple Deaths hate high light IMO. Keep them under low light and they will purple up for you. Alot of people will put them in the light to speed up the coral growth. Then they shade them to purple them back up.

My purple deaths look maroon under my 400w mh. If i turn some actinics on, they glow purple. It's all about the lighting. Like they said, lower lighting and you will get more of the purple coloring.

Yeah. My purple deaths look more purple under lower lighting. With high light they lose their deep purple color.

thats what mine look like....a maroon color....

so if i move them into a shady area theyll get their purple back....hmmm......need to find a ledge away from the stinging corals....

ive already noticed 2 new polyps on the base of the plug so thats a good sign....at least they are happy in that sense...

I have my PD's on the side of my 40 that get less light right on the sand bed and they are growing like crazy.....

These were taken a couple months back. Purple on my purple Death's tend to fade and come back to color up many times per year. It is like they go thru cycles or phases.
