From Genoa here!

Finally decided to start looking for Clubs.
And I made my way here!

I am Extreme Noob so I will try and give an overview of what I am looking at doing.

I want to start with a 20 gallon long. I know the bigger the better but for now thats what I am kinda set on!
Ideas for stocking at this time would be a firefish, clown fish, and some kind of clean up crew. Corals and such would come later.

I want to do the Live rock in the beginning.(25-30lbs)
This will be just the tank with protein skimmer and the other things. Not the ones with all the cool plumbing and stuff.

The advice I have been getting on lighting is 2X65
I also have a water report for Genoa that I can post at a later time!

Ill leave at this for now.
Any help, ideas, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

If you would like any information or help you are more than welcome to stop by my house. I am in Cortland. I also drive to Marengo everyday to go to work so I drive through Genoa. I could possibly stop by sometime if you need some help.

As for setting up your tank. What types of corals were you thinking about? Clownfish and firefish would work on that size tank. I would try to go as large as you can to start. I have seen someone selling on a different board a 29 gallon oceanic Biocube for $200 that was new. I have the 14 gallon and am veryhappy with it. The larger nano tanks are a very nice way to start.

I forgot to put that in my first post. Transportation is an issue. I mentioned it to Rob. And its good to here you cruise through Genoa
Thats been the main reason I never really looked for Clubs before!

As far as Corals I havent even touched the surface with them(no pun intended)

The whole tank part is making me lose more hair!
Skimmers lighting chillers refugiums skilters sumps heaters live rock live sand where does it end!!!!!! LOL

You mentioned skilter, DON"T DO IT MAN!
Lots of us have made the mistake of going cheap with equipment and then buying the good stuff later. I could suggest a CPR Back Pac type skimmer for your set up. I've heard good things about them over the years. Frankly I am supprised skilters are still made. Before you buy get a few people to critic your equipment list. It will save you lots in the long run. With 2x65w pc's there are a lot of corals you can keep so that lighting is good to start with, but you need a quality skimmer to keep the water clean and let that light in.

Oh sorry to scare you I was just throwing things up there. That wasn't my personal list! LOL

And yes I will definitely have links to everything I buy so all you experienced people can see what I am doing. Plus Maybe people have things for sale I may need because of recent upgrades etc.

Also suggestions for getting the 20 gallon long the only place out here I remember ever even seeing one is Petco but they wanted $50

The guy in West Dundee told me he would order me any size I wanted but I haven't been there in a long time!

Chlorine - 1.0158 ppm
Nitrates - Nitrites .036 ppm
Lead - 15ppb
Copper - 1.3 ppm
Sodium - 14ppm
Iron - 210ppb
Manganese- 24ppb

I do actually want to get this confirmed by an actual person from the city!

I would invest in a RO or RO/DI unit. The water out here is not good for a saltwater tank

goat is right......water qualtiy can make or break your tank.......but the smaller you go......may want to consider getting water from fellow reefer or buying water and getting tank established as you will need clean water for startup, water changes and of course top off water as well

of course you get to look foward to hauling jugs of water around :0)

Well the thing with me is transportation is an issue!

So I would like to make my own water if I can!

What other things would I need. Besides The RO filter and salt!

Well if I were you I'd drill that tank, so you could put all the filtration, heater, pump in the sump. Believe me you'll will have wanted to after you get into the hobby more. Rob or I could probably drill your tank for free. Then you'd just need to silicone in some glass for an overflow or you could just put in a standpipe. Let me know if you want me to drill it for you and I'm sure I can help with the rest of it as well.
