I want to eventually keep a pair in a ten gallon nano. Do I have to get a mated pair or can I just get two? Will they fight? And does anyone know how to tell the difference between males and females?

I also Want to keep a Randalli Shirmp with them. But I also have a yellow coral banded shrimp, will it be ok? Will the gobies fight over the randalli?

Tagging along. I want them , but with a different shrimp( Will any Alpheus spp work?). Almost ready for fish and think they should be 1st inhaditants in my 55g.

I've paired them up on a few occasions. Now did I end up with a male/ female pair? Who knows? But I did end up with pairs that lived together peacefully. I see no problem from your yellow Banded Coral shrimp.

Hi,

you can only sex them, if they start spawning, the bigger fatter fish will be the lady, the fish in the burrow is the male caring for the eggs. I had that several times. There´s a thread about that in the Breeding Forum.

You can buy 4 fishes and see who is pairing, but don´t forget to remove the other two immediately, or they will be chased to death from the alpha animal and eventually jump out of your tank.

That´s how things worked out at mine. Put in a pair of Alpheus randalli, this will be perfect match.

Regards Erik

Justdave, is that from the tank you have at Kermits?, If so beautiful tank, was down there a couple weeks ago, picked up a couple Clowns and a Frogspawn all doing great so far. But wanted to compliment the tank , very nice!

The pistol shrimp is a Randall's or Candy Stripe. I had a pair of Hi Fin's and they were a pair when I got them. They lived happily for six months before I broke down the tank and sold them. You will be fine with just one pistol shrimp for the pair.

Not loud at all. It's more of a clicking noise really. It's definitely loud enough to hear it if you are the room, but it's not obnoxious at all (like the tiger pistol shrimp!).
