Watch your snails!!

My Hermits blue leg hermits haven't been very nice to my snails over the last year. I don't think that I will ever get that more than one or two.

I threw in a bunch of empty shells (like 40) and they are all going aroung changing shells some more than once a day. most of them were behind the rocks, but they are ending up in some strange places.

The cup was held up with just the black o-ring, but it would not stay in place. I went Ace hardware and picked up the plastic corner protector (for wall paper), and removed the adhesive. Then I cut 4 pieces to fit the collection cup. I added the rubber band, and now it does not move at all, and when I clean the cup it is in the exact location when I put it back. I am contemplating having something more aesthetically pleasing made by TAP plastics though. I am going to have them make a better light mount for the refugium light.

Welcome to the club John....I think the zoas may actually be getting too much light for now. I've got some pink zoas that don't seem to like high light like the rest of my zoas. They actually stayed closed for two weeks when I had them up high in my tank. I put them on the sandbed and after about two days they started to stay open. I would suggest moveing the frag down to your sandbed if they don't open up soon. Another thing you will want to do is inspect the frag for any preditors like nudis or pyrimid(sp) snails...

good flow is imperative.

also, fyi to watch out in terms of running carbon, if you look on the 'zoa' forum there's a relatively new issue of 'zoa pox/white bumps' that some say is related to use of carbon, especially 24/7. i was using carbon 24/7, had the issue (its generally temporary) and have since switched to carbon for 3-5 days a month and now issues since.
