Hi Toxic Corals!!!??

hi, i would like to know if this corals are toxic and how and when dose this happen. thank you

1-Red Chillie Soft Coral
2-Leather Fatfinger Sinularia
3-Dendromephthya sp. Purple Soft Finder
4-Porites Jeweled Finger Coral
5-Colt Tree
6-Dendromephthya sp. Cauliflower
7-Dendromephthya sp.Orange Soft finger
8-Dendromephthya sp. Red Soft Finger

they will be in a 1500 system tank with sps and Lps. is that ok? what I must be aware of? what happens if I frag this corals? thank you.

Many corals have various 'toxins' in their bodies.

Are you wondering what is toxic to you? What is toxic to other corals, what is toxic to the tank in general?

If you are concerned with something emitting toxins in the tank and harming other corals, then I would not worry about it. Those dendros are very difficult to keep and require a special tank, see the totm, and will not be good to try and mix with sps and such.

This corals are for sale so they will not stay long time. 2 weeks max. But iwhat if they to samething bad to the hole system during this 2 weeks?! That is my concern. Thank u

I am not quite understanding what you are saying. If you are concerned about them harming each other, like I said before, thats not a problem, unless there is direct contact.

I read that same soft corals relase toxin and burns corals without direct contact with ich others, so I want to make sure that does not happen during this two weeks. They will not have direct contact with other corals but the will be on the same huge frag farm system.

Leather corals have been known to release chemicals into the water and bother other corals. In fact, most soft corals will do this. Two weeks probably won't be a problem unless the pieces are large, touching, or in a very small tank. Search for "allelopathy." Running carbon certainly wouldn't hurt, but for two weeks, it's probably not necessary.

That looks a lot like a transship list, are you importing/transhipping them? Do you for sure have them sold or are you hoping they're going to sell? They're not going to poison your system, but I'd be worried about them surviving the full 2 weeks, dendros fall apart fast and can be a bit finicky with shipping...

Sounds like you should spend some more time learning about corals and their needs before attempting to sell them.

Of the corals that you listed, the only ones that will cause problems if things go wrong are the colt and the leather. These two often fight in nature with chemical wars so don't place them next to each other. If the corals are large, then can take out alot of other corals. If the leather corals sheds, make sure that the shedded tissue doesn't land on the other corals. I usually place leather corals near overflows to make sure that any shed tissue goes to the skimmer in the sump rather than blowing around in the tank. Dendro's can be pretty delicate, so fragging isn't for the faint of heart or recommended for the inexperienced.
