Hi

Tank Girl

Hi, my name is Nicole and I'm in process of planning/buying an aquarium. I'm very excited about it, I have not ever had saltwater aquarium before (only freshwater). Right now I'm waiting on final quote and plan before I will order it. It will be 100 gallon reef ready aquarium. I'm sure that I will have many questions to ask, but bye for now.

what diemsions are you looking at for a tank?

With reefs it is always best to go as deep (front to back) as possible.

Paul.

Nicole,
Welcome! Feel free to ask away. You'll find plenty of people here more then willing to give you advice. Always remember, Patience. :)

Hi everybody, Hi Lauren,
I am glad to see that this is not just a hobby for guys. My aquarium measurements will be 56 inches side to side, 24 front to back, and 18 inches top to bottom. I would like to have clownfish. Are they difficult to keep? I really wanted sea horses, but decided against it for now. Bye

Clowns are as easy as any other fish, provided you give them clean water and don't mix females or, except for special circumstances, species. Do some reading on the main RC boards dedicated to clowns and it will definitely get you started.

Welcome!

May I ask what lights you plan to use, the reason I ask is that most lights come in 36, 48 or 60 inches if you are going T5. Metal halide will cover the area, but add heat to the tank.

LEDs may work, but are pretty expensive.

You can of course stagger T5s, but then the ends of the tank are less bright than the center area and may not look good.

Im unsure of the sizes of the combination hoods.

Regards,

Paul.

I agree with Paul; that is an unusual size for a tank. It must be custom built? Perhaps you are limited to the footprint your aquarium can take in your space?

You might look at the standard size 120G tank, which is 48" wide. It is a popular size and easily attainable reef ready.

Pick a good dealer to advise you, and then research here what you are told.

You could always go with 60" lamps on a DIY and have 2 inches of overhang on each side, and only 18 deep you could probably pull off 6 lamps.

Hi Everybody,

To Paul, I have not decided what type of lights that I want to use. I am looking at different options right now.

To LL, That is correct, aqaurium will be room divider between my living room and dining room. It will go between 2 pillars, given me only 57 inches.

I placed an order for an aquarium and it should be here in 3 or 4 weeks.

Talk to you guys later,
Bye

I run 6qty 5ft t5's on my 6ft tank and suppliment on the ends with a couple leds. There was very little shaddow before I put the leds in but know there is none. Just a thought, I would run 4ft t5's qty 6 and then see if you have any shadows. LEDs are pretty easy to put in and your welcom to come over and look at mine.

Thank you Chris for the invitation, I might come and look sometime.
While aquarium is still a few weeks away, I'm starting to order the equipment. Stand was delivered today. That is it for now.

Update I got great news today, my aquarium is finished and should be here this weekend. My sump tank is also built and here is a picture of it, what do you guys think?

Over the past few weeks, I read and researched about clown fish. I narrowed my choices to picasso clown fish, platinum clown fish, or black ice clown fish. Which ones do you think will look the best? That is it for now. TTYL
