Absolutely. HDPE doesn't have any plasticizer to speak of which is what makes a polymer dangerous or not for aquarium use. Well that to a large extent, and to a lesser extent, porosity and flexibility.
Would UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) work the same way? I would suspect so, but just wondering b/c I can get my hands on UHMWPE at work easily and could use it to make gaskets if need be.
