Yeah I know the CUC goes in first. These are tiny little hermits. I guess they will grow though. What about the Astrea snail. Just 1 then?for a 10G tank that's too many hermits and a shrimp. Should be fine w just 1 hermit. CUC usually goes in 1st, then fish.
Well in all that I've read about Dr Tim's it basically said once you can cycle NH3 and NO2 in 24 hrs it's good. The diatoms are blooming so that will consume most of the nitrates. Once it fully cycles in 24 hrs I won't dose anymore and let the diatoms take over then die back from a lack of nitrates. You really need to stop dosing ammonia!!! Ideally dose one time and that is all. Continuing to dose ammonia only serves to drive up your nitrates, the end product of your cycle. Those elevated nitrates will lead to algae issues down the road and require you to make very large water changes to correct the problem.
agreed...I'm old school and would've went w dead piece of shrimp and waited several weeks if not a month for tank to cycle. While mcgyver is pretty much never wrong, I don't agree that you have a truly cycled tank using magic in a bottle (which, admittedly I use). Rather, you do jump start the cycle but it's still really delicate at 9 days.
:lolspin: That's a good way to put it and exactly what happened to my male clown after more than a year of domestic life... guess he wasn't into arranged marriages.... subsequently decided to go carpet surfing.
I didn't like the idea of rotten shrimp stinking up my living room. My tank has been cycling since may 6th. I'm gonna let the bloom take over now.agreed...I'm old school and would've went w dead piece of shrimp and waited several weeks if not a month for tank to cycle.
