High Nutrient Macro Algae/Sea Grass Reef

Last week I did a deep clean on the left side of the tank. That must be where the lowest flow is and it is where detritus settles the most. Since my tank is only a 56g the easiest way to clean it was to put the rock and coral in a 5g bucket of tank water and use a siphon vacuum to suck out the muck. And mucky and yucky it was. Then I just put everything back more or less the way it was, ha ha! I took pics yesterday and all has been well.

Thanks George. I feel like my pics are boring because they always look the same. I might change the placement of coral slightly but in general the tank doesn't change a lot. I guess I need to buy more coral?
I’m always an advocate for more coral if you have the room. I don’t find your pics boring. I see different things every time you post but, you see the tank everyday so I see how you’d feel that way.

Maybe we all feel that way about our tanks pics after they somewhat mature. A good thing is our local club is having a frag swap not this Saturday but next Saturday and I plan to attend. My friend who gave me the torch will be there so I may buy a couple coral from him since all the coral he gave me have done great. I will post some pics after I get stuff.

I think you're right. I find myself constantly wanting to add corals. Fortunately, I have to some friend who are very generous when it comes to sharing frags.

Can't wait to see the new additions.

Yesterday was the frag swap and I did come home with a few more coral! I chose zoas and or palys since they have been doing well in my tank plus I liked the colors. Our swap always has a raffle and I scored a brand new in the box Aqua Clear 110 filter. I have some "well loved" HOB filters in my fish room in the event that my return pump gives up the ghost but I doubtful that they would even run so now I have a filter that I can count on. Anyway here are some pics of the new additions. Ignore the photo bombing fish, LOL!

Nice pickups Dawn.
Thanks George! It was fun seeing some friends who have tanks and catching up. Now thinking back on it, maybe I should have bought more but I am pretty conservative about spending money on something I consider frivolous.

We had a really nasty storm Tuesday afternoon. It left us and many residents in the Pittsburgh, PA without power. I used a 1000W power inverter running it off our car battery to run life supports on the tank plus our fridge and freezer. Our power came on last night 28 hours after it went off but many residents are still out of power. My tank is fine.
Also the high winds (which were clocked at 71 mph at Pgh international airport) brought down several trees on our property. One tree just narrowly missed our house.

Whoa, glad you’re safe and the tank survived.
Thanks George! Actually we were coming home from Eastern OH but we had left our 2 small dogs in that fenced in area. When we were 2/3 home we knew the storm was going to beat us so I called a good friend and asked her to put the dogs in the house. Am I ever glad that we did that as we love our doggies!
