Hi guys my phosphate is at 0.25 I no that is pretty high I'm just wondering the best stuff I can use to lower it. I have a 55 gallon bowfront with a reef octopus classic 1000 hob skimmer

Any GFO will do, but if you don't have a reactor then you could run something like Seachem Phosguard in a HOB filter. Carbon dosing is another option you might want to look into.

How about nitrates?

Are you overfeeding?

Water changes alone can lower it...

What both of them said. I prefer to run GFO in a reactor - in your case something like a TLF 150 would be perfect - it can hang on the back of the tank or (in my case) in the sump.

IMHO, the most economical place to purchase GFO is www.bulkreefsupply.com

My nitrates are at 0 and now my phosphates are at 0 now too. I had went to my LFS he said for me to grab chemi pure blue snd throw that in one of my hob filters i had laying around and it seems to be working so far it's been 2 days now... just wondering when I do another water change I'm going to clean off all my rock scrub the green hair algea off and everything. Now is there another step I should do to make sure this algea doesn't come back??

I would get yourself a dual reactor and run RowaPhos and carbon. More importantly consider decreasing feedings to once every other day and the amounts as well. I alternate between frozen combo of Rods/Mysis and Hikari and New Life Spectrum pellets. Using RowaPhos as well and I like it. Be sure to rinse that frozen food if that is what your using for a good 2-3 minutes in a cup of warm aquarium water and strain out the water.

luck

I would watch this video before you go into panic mode about phosphates. https://youtu.be/ZRIKW-9d2xI

it was suggested that i watch this video when i posted about having 0 nitrate and .5 phosphate. it's very interesting and informative, well worth the short time to watch it.
