high phosphate

I use Reef Crystals salt, Nutrafin max flake about 2 x week. I also feed frozen brine and blood worms. I have about 2" or so of sand.

Reef crystals used to be a great salt as it had higher calcium and buffering properties. But I have read alot about it being loaded with phosphates. Which would maybe give you a minor bloom every time you did a water change.

As far as the rock thing is concerned, I was talking about some things I read about live rock depleting oxygen not base rock. I would maybe be leary of base rock mined from land sources. Actually any calcium base rock will probably leach some phosphates into your tank. Just look at how careful one must be when choosing a calcium reactor media to avoid phosphates. Which brings us to another interesting note...... what is the largest reef building organism in the world? Halimeda, a plant, and the calcium left over from their growth has no phosphates in it. It is supposedly the best stuff to use in a reactor.......so I have read.......hmmmmm flake food, never used it.

Hmmm did either of you get any of that filter material that Jason brought to the meeting before last?
