High salt in tank

Hello all,

I was do some weekly work on my tank a few weeks ago and I noticed my sality (0.0130) was high so I did a water change and just added fresh water (R/O Water that is) and it went to about .0125 so I was going to watch it. I then came back a few days later and it had gone up much so I just waited til the next week. Well when I went back it was back to .0130. I am not sure why this is happening. I need help w\ this.

Are you using a hydrometer or a refractometer?

Do you have any salt creep?

Are you using a hydrometer to check? If so go buy a refractometer to get a more accurate result.

Are you topping off your tank daily to account for evapration? or do you have an ATO?

Are you using saltwater for top offs? Should be using fresh RO/DI water for that if you have been.

The only time you should premixed saltwater is when you are doing your water changes.

Evaporation. Water leaves the salt behind as it evaporates. This is why it is important to run an auto top off unit or schedule a day to replenish the evaporated water. Remember, besides the salt all other chemicals in the tank fluctuate with evaportation also.
