High stand?

what are some taller stand heights that you have seen. Im looking at putting my 40b together and the stand im builiding is looking at being 44" tall. This puts the tank at 61" to the top of the tank. Im wondering if this will be too top heavy.

the stand dimension should be 40Lx26Wx44H

Forty four inches tall with the footprint of a 40 breeder, I think you'll be ok. I'm not sure if you plan on having a sump, but that weight down below will help to stabilize it. No worries. :)

my stand is 42" tall with a 24" tall tank on it and its pretty stable, has a 35g sump with only about 15g of water in it

lol im 6'. the height isn't a problem for me. Ill have to see what i like better also. I like the placement of the tank in the living room but its carpet. Depending on how stable it is it might go in the kitchen on the tile :(

the tank is a 40B display with a 40B sump. I cant wait

thanks for the help everyone.

Stability shouldn't be an issue but unless you're really tall servicing is going to be a hassle.

LOL! I agree with this. My stand is 42" and my tank is 30" high, so six feet in total. Viewing height is great, but I need to use a stepstool to feed my fish and a ladder for water changes! Didn't think about that in advance. Oh well, it adds to the fun.

I have no stability issues, although my stand is made of steel.

I have a 40br as well and I built my stand at 48", I didn't want to bend over to look at everything and it keeps little fingers out of the tank. Mine is 48" tall, 24" deep and 48" wide. It is in anticipation of a tank upgrade as well as allowing my plumbing to run through the stand and not outside of it, helps to have a little ledge to set stuff on as well, this also allows me to push it up against the wall.

My 120 is on a 42" tall stand, no problems being top heavy, I don't have the sump under the tank either.

my stand is 44'' tall and I have a 125 on top of the stand. I have it this tall so no little ones can mess with it. my kids are older but I now have grand kids, but when my daughter was about 2 she called her shelf cleaning the tank for me and put dish washing liquid in the tank I lost a lot stuff that has been 15 years ago but I have never forgot the lesson so I made the stand high this time so even I need a step stool to get on lol

The stand I made for my 40B was 42" inches tall, I just recently cut it down to 38", which "for me" is a more comfortable height for servicing the tank.

As far as viewing goes, will folks typically be standing up while looking at the tank or sitting down?

these are good points. well i came up with a 44" tall tank but now am stuck on the overflow design. any ideas

I made my 115g stand 48" tall. The whole system is 10 feet tall. Its certainly a skyscraper. One issue I have, is I have to use a stool just to get into my canopy, its a challenge to siphoned the sandbed.I look forward to your stand and tank being built so we can see it!I like 40g breeder reefs!
