Hi ,,,

I want to know there is any relation between high water temperature and growing hairy algae ?

because I running my tank with ULNS no3 =0 and po4= 0.01 but I'm not using chiller , my water temp. = 84.2F , and I have big growing hairy algae ?

Certain types of algae may grow better at different temperatures, but that doesn't change the fact that algae growth is limited by (cannot grow without) carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus. You have to have those in your system for the algae to grow (in our systems, usually in the forms of CO2, NO3, and PO4). My guess is that you are reading '0's because the algae is growing fast enough to absorb it and/or your tests are low resolution.

Since fish are cold blooded, higher temps increase their metabolism, meaning they eat more and thus they excrete more. At least this is a common theory you will encounter. In real practice I don't think it matters much.

Like the posts above say, if you have algae you have nutrients present despite what your tests say. There are many ways to deal with that but temperature is not one of them. BTW your temp is at the high end of the acceptable scale. Personally I'd lower it 4 degrees or so at least. Don't let it rise any more.

Oh forgot to add lower the temp slowly if you choose to lower it at all. You won't go wrong with lowering 1 degree per day.

I researched this once. SW algae grow better in warmer temps, up until about 86 F where it starts to drop off. In other words, it has acclimated to ocean conditions.
