Hinge not attached

My clam was opened unevenly so I took him out to look and the hinge is not attached any more. I've had him for about a year. He's open and looks ok but I've never seen this before. Any idea what's wrong?

what is not attached anymore? The clam to the shell or what?

The clam is not spilling out but at the point of where the hinge is, the two pieces of shell aren't connected there anymore
